Holiday

from Get Real by Matt Rider

lyrics

We went on holiday
You were already there,
I made my own way.
But I left my camera at home,
At the airport I bought two throwaway ones.

And I took pictures of old trains,
of the guard at the palace who wouldn't tell us his name,
But we went on asking all the same.

I looked at those cameras today,
sitting on the shelf.
And I know whats on those roll's,
Boring pictures I took in the freezing cold.

Still I thought about taking them in,
Let some stranger develop them,
They'd never know, that was a life ago.
I wanted scene's of purity,
In narrative if not clarity,
But just like us this was not meant to be.

I got the shot's back from the shop,
Just two came out.
Both looking out over the dock,
The first one you're in,
The next you're not.

But I wanted scenes of purity,
In narrative if not clarity,
But just like us this was not meant to be,
I should have left those shells back on the shelf,
They weren't by me but someone else,
What right did I have to go developing,
If that was never really happening.
